Hello and happy summer to all my readers!
I’m excited to share that one of my poems is featured today as Split This Rock’s Poem of the Week. The poem, “Blindness Locked Me Out,” first appeared in my book, Neoteny, back in 2019. You can read the poem and listen to me reading it here.
I had fun writing this poem. I wanted to create a casual style, like a found note or diary entry — something scribbled in a hurry. While the poem describes situations where my blindness made me an outsider, any poet knows that being an outsider means you have more room to observe what is going on. And that’s what I tried to do here. I hope you enjoy it!
